We took a matched donor’s head stack, used the new heads to image the platters around the area of damage, and rebuilt the original photo library from this copy.
We removed both drives from the unit and made copies of each prior to touching anything else in the array. We then reassembled the RAID in software, and the office's shared folder opened complete.
Prior to letting any software near it, we created an exact image of the card. From there we worked on that image to reconstruct the directory, and then carve all frames back out at full resolution.
We took an exact forensic image of the recorder's disk. We then read back the closed video file format using time code. We provided the single hour of footage that mattered to the insurance company.
Evidence & investigations
Most people who hire us stop when they receive their recovered files. Some people want to take things further (make an insurance claim, appear before a tribunal, pursue a criminal action), and those cases are handled according to forensic procedures as soon as the items arrive: imaging behind a write blocker; creating a chain-of-custody record detailing every movement; creating a report written to be challenged.
Data is taken from computers, machines, hard drives etc., then assessed using an evidence-based methodology that withstands cross-examination. We operate on behalf of solicitors, employers, insurers and private clients in Berkshire.
When video clips have been deleted, footage has been looped over by the DVR or recordings are stranded in a dead recorder, we read the disk by time code and export the footage into formats acceptable to both police forces and insurance companies.
